Vision is among our most vital faculties. For, it links us to the outside world. Our eyes are the windows through which we are able to see, to understand, and to learn everything that takes place in our environment. As much as we would like to preserve this faculty, there are many factors though that lead to its deterioration such as old age and health problems. The good news, however, is that the
advancing medical science continues to provide effective treatments to certain eye problems.
The various eye treatments could be classified primarily into two: flap procedure treatments and photoablation technique. Flap procedures involves the removal of the flap in the cornea in order to access the tissue underneath it. Meanwhile, photoablation technique utilizes
ultraviolet radiation in order to remove eye tissues. This procedure usually follows after LASIK and LASEK.
There are several eye surgeries under the flap procedure. They are: LASIK (nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism), LASEK (for people with thin or flat corneas), Epi-Lasik (a variation of LASEK), ALK (for nearsightedness and mild farsightedness). Meanwhile, the photoablation procedure is done through PRK (
Photorefractive Keratectomy) that treats astigmatism, nearsightedness, and mild farsightedness.
