
Since when we were young, our mother always made us eat vegetables. They say that our body needs the vitamins from vegetables if we want to grow strong. I particularly wasn’t fond of carrots but my mother always told me to eat them anyway saying that it was good for my eyes. Of course back then I didn’t believe her, but now that I am older (hopefully wiser) I’ve realized that carrots are
good for health. Carrots, as well as other green leafy vegetables, contain beta carotenes which the body converts into
vitamin A.
Vitamin A helps maintain the health of our cornea. Without the proper supplement of vitamin A, the cornea gets clouded. In the retina, vitamin A is part of the pigment that reacts when our eye is stuck by light. These reactions create nerve impulses that are sent to the brain to create a
visual image. Vitamin A deficiency also causes the eyes to recover slowly after flashes of bright light at night. So eat your vegetables! It’s good for you. Be careful not to eat too many carrots though. There have also been reported incidents where a person’s skin turns orange from eating too many of these orange produce.
