"Soft, wrinkle-free, age defying", that's the wonders of a
Botox treatment. Who wouldn't want to see a mid-age woman transported back to her thirties? At least that's what flashy ads claim! But do you know that Botox also treats over-active muscles?
Yes, Botox is likewise a medical treatment for muscle spasms and several eye health conditions. But with a million-dollar industry for beauty and glam, we're more informed of its cosmetic blunder for vanity. I'm not surprised at all! Research experiments are fast track when it comes to superficial human desires than curing a dreadful
disease like AIDS or cancer.
Now I don't want to get fussy about the shallow society of ours, or even the tricky insurance deals. But just a few months back, my mom was rejected for a treatment for her eye twitching scare. While the doctor suggested of a Botox treatment, her medical insurance refused to cover it. And I wondered why! Her doctor explained that Botox is cited more popularly as cosmetics breakthrough than a medical cure for the muscles.
"That's lame!", I heard my mom cursed, and I shared her sentiment not as a son but as a member of a community who's also prone to health risks of our times. And I asked myself, "Aren't doctors suppose to insist on cure? Or insurance companies, for that matter, to take responsibility in their clients' health?". My mom did not insist anymore, although she knew she could rationally put out all reasons to justify her case.
I share this lesson to all. In choosing a medical insurance deal or company, make sure that they're really after your well- being and not your money. And to the medical society, we need more answers to health than beauty!
